I've been off work all week, so this is my first morning to wake up before 11 in a while. I don't know why I rolled out of bed at 7 this morning, but since I've been relaxing in my quiet house I've been doing a little reflection. A quick check on facebook this morning has revealed to me that there's pretty much only one thing on anybody's mind--New Years.
I've never been one to make resolutions--my thought is that if you are going to make changes, why wait till a certain point on the calendar? Instead, I want to mention some things that I'd like to keep doing in 2012.
-Lose weight. I haven't checked my weight in a few days because I'm scared to see what the Christmas calories have done to me, but I've lost 15-20 pounds since October and I'd like to lose more in 2012. If are interested in losing weight and you have a smartphone or if you spend a lot of time online, I would recommend you check out this site/app: http://loseit.com/. Lose It is a free app/website that allows you to keep an online journal of everything you eat, and then it will make daily caloric intake recommendations based on your height, weight, level of activity, and the speed at which you'd like to lose weight.
-Read the Bible. I am slightly ashamed to admit that, despite my BA in Biblical studies and MA in ministry, that 2011 is the first year in my life that I have ever read the whole Bible in one year. In 2012 I will keep this up, although I still haven't completely decided what reading plans I'll take on. One thought was to only read the Gospels and Acts this year so that I could focus solely on the life and work of Jesus and of the early church. Another thought I had was to focus on memorizing instead of reading--this would take a lot more effort but might have some longer lasting fruit.
-Learn. I get bored pretty easily. If I am not constantly learning new things, then my mind just feels numb. Last August I started my second bachelor's degree, this time in management. I have really been enjoying my classes, and I'm looking forward to do doing this for another year. However, I want to figure out how to do lifelong learning in a practical way. College is expensive, so I'll need something more sustainable once I finish this program in 2013.
What are your goals for 2012? What do you want to keep doing?
