Man, my heart is still pounding and I'm shaking a little bit.
I woke up at about 11pm...a little strange since I had only been asleep for a few minutes. I thought I had heard some screaming, pounding, and other weird sounds, but once I was fully awake I could hear nothing. I just assumed that I could just roll over and I'd be ok.
The last hour is still a little fuzzy because everything happened so fast, but the next thing I remember is LOUD pounding on a door. I thought it was my neighbor's door, but I couldn't be too sure since my door is right next to my neighbor's. Next I heard a shouted voice "Police, Open Up!" More pounding "Police, Open up or we'll kick the door down." I was terrified that the police were at my door and I was just about to move to open the door when I heard my neighbor's door open.
All that happened next is still so fuzzy, but I heard typical cop show dialogues "get down and put your hands behind your back...GET DOWN....get over here." I heard a slight scuffle, then I heard a calm dialogue between my neighbor (I recognized his voice) and a cop. I just assumed that the cops had carried away whoever they needed to carry away, then were just interviewing him. But, I went into my living room (where I could slightly see my neighbor's door) and I noticed that a man--who I'm pretty sure was my neighbor--was in handcuffs.
The last thing I heard before that man was walked off was "If she doesn't press charges, then we will" and they lead him off without much struggle.
Just a minute or two ago I heard another man come and say "is everything ok." I didn't recognize his voice, so he may have come to calm my neighbor's family.
OK, just to straighten up some details: next door is a Latino man and his white wife (or g/f?) and their three small kids. The man is so friendly and I've had a couple conversations with him. The wife is kind of scary looking and she always sounds so mean when talking to the kids. Naturally, I grew to trust the husband more than the wife, so I'm a little shocked that it seemed to have been the husband who got carried off. The one thing that I'm not sure about is that I think they've had a guest with them recently...another Latino man, but I haven't seen him much, so he could have just been a friend.
Anyways...Yikes...I'm wide awake and I hope I can get a little shut eye before I need to leave for work tomorrow.
